Pleated surface cartridges

Pleated Filter Cartridges

Pleated filter cartridges use folded media to present a much larger surface area than a depth cartridge of the same size, giving longer life at the same micron rating. They are available from 0.2 to 50 micrometres, are frequently cleanable, and can be supplied in absolute-rated constructions.

What Pleated Filter Cartridges Are, and How They Are Specified

Pleated filter cartridges use folded media to present a much larger surface area than a depth cartridge of the same size, giving longer life at the same micron rating. They are available from 0.2 to 50 micrometres, are frequently cleanable, and can be supplied in absolute-rated constructions.

Where a depth cartridge traps particles through its thickness, a pleated cartridge traps them on a folded surface. The pleating multiplies the effective area within the same housing envelope, which is why a pleated cartridge typically runs considerably longer than a spun cartridge at the same rating and flow.

Two things follow from that construction. Many pleated cartridges can be cleaned and returned to service, which changes the running-cost arithmetic against disposables. And because retention happens at a defined surface, pleated media supports absolute ratings in a way depth media does not.

Selection guidance

Compare on cost per litre filtered, not cost per cartridge

A pleated cartridge is several times the price of a spun cartridge at the same rating, which makes it look expensive on a purchase order. The comparison that matters is throughput before the change-out differential is reached, multiplied by whether the cartridge can be cleaned and returned.

On clean feed at low solids the spun cartridge often wins, because neither runs long enough for the area advantage to pay. On steady moderate solids loads, and particularly where changing cartridges means shutting a line down, pleated frequently wins comfortably.

Replacement Intervals and the Signs It Is Due

Intervals are indicative planning figures. The signal in the last column is what should actually trigger the change.

Put this on a standing order

Once a plant has a year of running behind it, consumption for this item is predictable. Sending the plant list and last year's usage gets it scheduled against your maintenance calendar instead of ordered in an emergency at the point the plant is already out of specification.

Commercial terms

How This Category Is Quoted

Water treatment does not have a list price, and any supplier quoting one before seeing a feed analysis is quoting a different plant from the one you need.

Pricing basis

On request, and capacity-dependent. Plant pricing moves with capacity, feed water analysis and the recovery target; membranes, cartridges and resins are quoted per element, per lot or per litre of media.

Order quantity

From a single replacement element or a case of cartridges through to full plant scope. Consumable lines are quoted per box or per lot, and the lot size is stated on the quotation.

Lead time

Confirmed per line item at quotation stage. Stocked consumable lines and made-to-order plant differ substantially, so a single blanket lead time for the category would be misleading — the quotation carries the figure for each line.

Invoicing

GST invoice against company or institutional purchase order. Proforma issued where advance payment or internal approval requires it.

Delivery coverage

Despatch from Delhi NCR across India, including plant, project and institutional sites. Delivery city and site access are asked for at enquiry because both affect despatch mode.

Documentation

Technical datasheet for the item quoted, and a test certificate where the principal supplies one with that product. Tender and institutional documentation formats are prepared on request — send the format with the enquiry so the quotation is issued in a form you can submit without rework.

Frequently asked

Pleated Filter Cartridges — Common Questions

Are pleated filter cartridges better than PP spun?

They last longer at the same micron rating because of the much larger surface area, and many can be cleaned and reused. They also support absolute ratings, which depth media generally does not.

Whether they are better value depends on the duty. On light solids loads the extra cost may not be recovered; on steady loads, and where a change-out means stopping a line, they usually are.

Can pleated cartridges be washed and reused?

Many can, depending on the media and the nature of the solids. That is a significant part of their economic case against disposable depth cartridges.

Cleaning does not restore performance indefinitely. When the clean differential no longer returns toward the original baseline, the cartridge has reached the end of its useful cycles.

What end cap type do I need?

It must match your housing. Double open end (DOE) is common in industrial water duty; 222 and 226 bayonet fittings with O-rings are usual in sanitary and pharmaceutical housings.

Send the housing make and model, or the end cap of the cartridge you are replacing, with the enquiry. A correct rating in the wrong end cap will not seal, and an unsealed cartridge filters nothing.
