ScientificEdge supports sourcing and supply of suitable FRP and stainless steel RO pressure vessels, membrane housings, end-cap assemblies, and mounting hardware based on element diameter (4-inch / 8-inch), operating pressure rating (300 to 1200 psi), porting configuration (end-port / side-port), brand preference, technical documentation, and buyer specifications.

Answer first

RO Pressure Vessels for Industrial Water Treatment, Desalination and ZLD Skids

RO pressure vessels — membrane housings — are pressure-retaining enclosures that hold spiral-wound reverse osmosis elements safely under hydraulic pressures from roughly 150 psi to 1200 psi. Selecting one comes down to element diameter, element count per vessel, pressure rating, porting configuration, feed water chemistry and whether code compliance is required.

The size decision is made for you by the membrane: a 4040 element needs a 4040 vessel, an 8040 needs an 8040, and bore, adapters and brine seals are all size-specific. What remains open is how many elements go in one vessel. Fewer, shorter vessels cost less individually but multiply the interconnections and the seals; longer vessels reduce both, at the cost of needing withdrawal clearance equal to the whole element string at one end of the skid — a constraint that is easy to overlook on a drawing and impossible to work around once the plant is built.

Porting is the decision that shapes the skid. End-port vessels take feed and concentrate through the heads, which is economical and perfectly sensible for one or two vessels. Side-port vessels bring both connections onto the shell near each end, so vessels in an array connect header-to-header without external elbows — fewer joints, a materially smaller footprint, and the reason almost every multi-vessel industrial skid uses them.

Final selection should rest on the maximum pressure the system can actually generate rather than its normal operating pressure, the feed salinity and therefore whether this is brackish or seawater duty, the array piping footprint, the manifold coupling style, and the burst safety factor the design is built to — typically four to six times the rated working pressure.

Specification

RO Pressure Vessels by Material, Pressure and Porting

Five ways vessels are specified. The pressure band comes from the system, the material from the feed and the duty, and the porting from the skid layout.

Indicative class characteristics rather than fixed product models. Rated working pressure, burst pressure, permitted temperature, element capacity, port sizes and code compliance vary by manufacturer and model, and are confirmed against the technical datasheet and the manufacturer's test documentation for the vessel quoted.

Specify the vessel on what the pump can generate, not on what the plant runs at

This is the most common and the most consequential ordering error in this category. A plant runs steadily at 250 psi, so a 300 psi vessel is ordered — it fits, it is cheaper, and on a normal day it is never troubled. But the number that matters is not the operating pressure. It is the maximum the system can generate, and for a centrifugal high-pressure pump that is the shut-off head: the pressure it produces against a closed discharge, commonly well above the duty point.

The plant meets that pressure more often than anyone expects. A concentrate valve closed too far during flux adjustment, a downstream isolation valve shut while the pump is still running, a startup transient before the valves are set, an automatic valve failing shut. Each of these puts the vessel at or near shut-off head, and if that exceeds the rating the vessel is being operated outside its design envelope — quietly, and usually without anyone recording it.

The burst safety factor does not rescue this, and treating it as headroom is the second half of the mistake. A four-to-six-times factor exists to cover material variation, manufacturing tolerance, and fatigue accumulated over years of pressure cycling. It is consumed by the vessel's normal life, not banked for excursions. An FRP vessel that fails releases a great deal of stored energy in a plant room where people work, which is why this is the one specification on the page worth being pedantic about.

So take the pump curve, read the shut-off head, add the feed pressure ahead of the high-pressure pump, and select the rating band above that figure. Where a relief valve or a pressure switch limits the system below shut-off head, that protection has to be genuinely present and maintained — not assumed. Send the pump make and model with the enquiry and this becomes a two-minute check rather than a guess.

Quality assurance support

Technical Datasheets, Dimensional Drawings and Quality Assurance Support

As a trusted B2B distributor and supplier, ScientificEdge can coordinate technical datasheets, CAD dimensional line drawings, hydrostatic factory test certificates, ASME Section X compliance documentation, and spare parts exploded diagrams where available from the respective manufacturer. Plant engineers are encouraged to share system operating pressure and piping layouts during enquiry to verify port alignment.

CAD dimensional drawings

Overall length, port positions and centres, and saddle spacing — so the vessel is confirmed against your skid layout before it ships, not after.

Technical datasheets

Rated working pressure, permitted temperature, element capacity, port sizes and materials of construction for the model quoted.

Factory test certificates

Hydrostatic test documentation for the supplied vessel or batch, where the manufacturer issues it.

Exploded spare parts diagrams

Head assembly breakdowns, so the right seal kit is ordered by part number rather than identified by eye at a shutdown.

ASME Section X code stamping and CE marking are attributes of the manufacturer's specific product and its certification scope. ScientificEdge coordinates that documentation where the manufacturer issues it; it does not certify, stamp, test or re-rate vessels, and does not confer compliance. Document availability depends on the manufacturer, the model and the supplied batch. Installation, pressure testing, relief protection and periodic inspection remain the responsibility of the plant owner and their qualified engineers.

Whether you actually need a code-stamped vessel is worth settling early rather than defaulting either way. It is driven by the jurisdiction, the insurer and the client's own specification, and a code stamp changes both cost and lead time materially. Where the requirement is genuine, say so at enquiry — a non-code vessel cannot be certified after the fact.

Brand and sourcing support

Brand and Sourcing Support

ScientificEdge supports sourcing and distribution enquiries for FRP and stainless steel RO pressure vessels and membrane housings from reputed global and domestic brands, including Pentair (CodeLine), Wave Cyber, ROPV, Protec, UKL, Shubh, Bel Composite, and equivalent options, subject to stock availability, buyer specification, technical compatibility, and documentation.

Brand names indicate the sourcing enquiries ScientificEdge can support. They do not indicate authorised distribution, official dealership or an exclusive partnership, and no brand logos are displayed. Model designations such as CodeLine 80S and 40S are the trademarks of their respective owners and are referenced only because buyers and tender documents specify by them. Where an equivalent is offered, pressure class, element capacity, port style and overall dimensions are matched — head assemblies and seal kits are not interchangeable between makes, so spares must be ordered against the vessel actually installed.

Frequently asked

RO Pressure Vessels — Common Questions

Why choose ScientificEdge as your RO pressure vessel distributor in India?

ScientificEdge is a B2B distributor and sourcing partner covering vessels, end-cap assemblies, retaining hardware, seal kits, saddles and manifold couplings from one desk, so port style, pressure class and dimensions are settled at quotation stage rather than discovered when the vessel arrives on site.

The practical value is in specification and paperwork: selecting the pressure band from what the system can actually generate, checking port positions against your skid layout, coordinating CAD drawings, datasheets and test certificates where the manufacturer issues them, and invoicing in the form your procurement or tender process requires.

What is the difference between side-port and end-port RO pressure vessels?

End-port vessels take feed and concentrate through the head assemblies at each end. They are simpler and less expensive, and they suit skids with only one or two vessels where the extra pipework is trivial.

Side-port vessels bring feed and concentrate onto the shell near each end instead, so vessels stacked in an array connect header-to-header without external elbows at every position. That means fewer joints, fewer potential leak points, and a materially smaller skid footprint — which is why almost every multi-vessel industrial array uses side-port. The trade is a slightly higher vessel cost and the need to get port orientation right at ordering.

How do I select the correct pressure rating for an RO pressure vessel?

Select it from the maximum pressure the system can generate, not from the pressure the plant normally runs at. For a centrifugal high-pressure pump that maximum is the shut-off head — the pressure produced against a closed discharge — plus whatever feed pressure exists ahead of the pump. Read it off the pump curve.

The plant reaches that pressure more often than expected: a concentrate valve closed too far, an isolation valve shut with the pump running, a startup transient, an automatic valve failing shut. The burst safety factor of four to six times is not spare capacity for those events — it covers material variation and fatigue over the vessel's service life. Choose the rating band above your calculated maximum, and where a relief valve limits the system below shut-off head, make sure that protection is actually fitted and maintained.

What are the standard element capacities for 8040 and 4040 FRP pressure vessels?

8040 vessels are commonly available from one to eight elements, with six and seven element vessels typical on large plants. 4040 vessels usually run from one to four elements, though longer versions exist.

Longer vessels reduce vessel count, interconnections and seals for a given permeate flow, which is why large plants favour them. The constraint is physical: you need clear withdrawal space at one end equal to the length of the full element string to load and unload elements. That clearance is easy to miss on a layout drawing and impossible to create once the plant room is built around the skid.

What material is better for RO pressure vessels — FRP fibreglass or stainless steel?

FRP is the default for industrial and commercial duty. Filament-wound fibreglass is inherently corrosion-resistant, lighter, and considerably less expensive, and it is available across the full pressure range including 1000 and 1200 psi seawater service.

Stainless steel is specified where the exterior must be sanitary and cleanable, or where a hygiene audit or client specification requires it — pharmaceutical, laboratory and food and beverage systems, generally in 4040 and 2540 sizes. Choose SS316 rather than SS304 wherever chlorides are present, since SS304 is prone to pitting corrosion in chloride service. Stainless is not the stronger choice by default; it is the choice made for cleanability and compliance.

What components are included in a standard RO pressure vessel end-cap assembly?

A head assembly typically comprises the head or end plate itself, a retaining ring — a snap ring or segmented crescent ring depending on the make — a bearing plate, a thrust ring or thrust cone, the permeate port fitting, the adapter that seats into the element permeate tube, and the O-ring set that seals the head to the shell and the adapter to the element.

The O-rings and seals are consumables and should be replaced at every element change rather than reused. The retaining hardware is load-bearing and make-specific: rings and heads are not interchangeable between manufacturers even where the vessels look alike, so spares must be ordered against the vessel actually installed rather than by appearance.

Can ScientificEdge supply spare end-caps, O-rings, thrust rings, and mounting saddles for existing pressure vessels?

Yes, and spares are a large part of the enquiry volume on this category. Complete head assemblies, seal and O-ring kits, retaining and thrust rings, adapters, saddles and mounting straps are all supplied for vessels already in service.

Send the vessel make, model and pressure rating from the shell label, along with a photograph of the head assembly where you can. Head designs differ between makes and between generations of the same make, and a seal kit ordered from the size alone frequently does not fit — which is exactly the wrong thing to discover during a planned shutdown.

Which major pressure vessel brands can ScientificEdge supply or source?

Sourcing and distribution enquiries are supported for reputed global and domestic brands including Pentair (CodeLine), Wave Cyber, ROPV, Protec, UKL, Shubh and Bel Composite, along with equivalent options.

This is subject to stock availability, buyer specification, technical compatibility and documentation, and does not indicate authorised distribution, official dealership or an exclusive partnership with any brand.

Do you deliver FRP and stainless steel RO pressure vessels across India?

Yes. Dispatch is coordinated across Delhi NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, West Bengal and other industrial corridors, covering plant, project, municipal and institutional sites.

Multi-element vessels are long and awkward rather than heavy, so transport is priced on length and handling more than on weight, and site access for a six or seven element vessel is worth confirming before dispatch. Lead time is confirmed per line item at quotation stage, since stocked models and imported high-pressure vessels differ substantially.
