Authentic Supply
Product identity and requested make reviewed against the exact sourcing requirement.
Melt blown cartridges are polypropylene depth filters produced by extruding fibre directly onto a forming core, typically with graded density that is coarser at the outside and finer toward the centre. That gradient holds more dirt before blocking than a uniform-density cartridge at the same rating.
ScientificEdge helps laboratories structure product, grade and documentation requirements for instruments, chemicals, filtration systems and consumables before supply is confirmed.

Melt blown cartridges are polypropylene depth filters produced by extruding fibre directly onto a forming core, typically with graded density that is coarser at the outside and finer toward the centre. That gradient holds more dirt before blocking than a uniform-density cartridge at the same rating.
The graded structure does inside one cartridge what staged filtration does across several: coarse material is captured in the outer layers, progressively finer material deeper in. The result is a longer run before the change-out differential is reached, on the same feed and at the same nominal rating.
Melt blown and PP spun are often used interchangeably in conversation and are genuinely close relatives. The practical difference is dirt-holding capacity, and it shows up on high solids loads rather than on clean feed.
| Parameter | Typical value or range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Micron ratings | 1, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100 µm | Nominal ratings |
| Lengths | 10, 20, 30, 40 in | Must match the housing |
| Media | 100 % polypropylene | Thermally formed, no binders |
| Density profile | Graded, coarse outside to fine inside | The source of the dirt-holding advantage |
| Dirt-holding capacity | Higher than uniform density spun | Most visible on high solids loads |
| Maximum operating temperature | Typically up to 52 °C | Falls with differential pressure |
| Recommended change differential | Around 1 bar rise | The practical replacement trigger |
Typical values across the cartridge class. Final dimensions and limits follow the datasheet of the cartridge quoted.
The gradient helps, but it works within one cartridge and one housing. On genuinely turbid feed the outer layers still saturate quickly, and the cartridge blocks earlier than the specification suggests.
Where solids are high enough that a graded cartridge is being considered for its capacity, a separate 25 µm pre-stage usually delivers more life per rupee than upgrading the fine stage. Use graded density to extend a well-staged train, not to rescue an unstaged one.
Intervals are indicative planning figures. The signal in the last column is what should actually trigger the change.
| Duty | Typical interval | Signs it is due |
|---|---|---|
| Municipal feed, 5 µm | 8–12 weeks | Differential pressure up about 1 bar from clean |
| Borewell feed, 5 µm | 4–8 weeks | Feed pressure climbing at constant flow |
| Behind a coarse pre-stage | Longer than unstaged duty | Differential rise on the fine housing |
Indicative planning bands. Actual life varies with turbidity, iron and flow rate.
Once a plant has a year of running behind it, consumption for this item is predictable. Sending the plant list and last year's usage gets it scheduled against your maintenance calendar instead of ordered in an emergency at the point the plant is already out of specification.
Water treatment does not have a list price, and any supplier quoting one before seeing a feed analysis is quoting a different plant from the one you need.
On request, and capacity-dependent. Plant pricing moves with capacity, feed water analysis and the recovery target; membranes, cartridges and resins are quoted per element, per lot or per litre of media.
From a single replacement element or a case of cartridges through to full plant scope. Consumable lines are quoted per box or per lot, and the lot size is stated on the quotation.
Confirmed per line item at quotation stage. Stocked consumable lines and made-to-order plant differ substantially, so a single blanket lead time for the category would be misleading — the quotation carries the figure for each line.
GST invoice against company or institutional purchase order. Proforma issued where advance payment or internal approval requires it.
Despatch from Delhi NCR across India, including plant, project and institutional sites. Delivery city and site access are asked for at enquiry because both affect despatch mode.
Technical datasheet for the item quoted, and a test certificate where the principal supplies one with that product. Tender and institutional documentation formats are prepared on request — send the format with the enquiry so the quotation is issued in a form you can submit without rework.
Fields marked with an asterisk are required. The technical fields are what usually decide whether you get a quotation on the first pass or three emails of clarification.
Both are polypropylene depth filters. Melt blown construction commonly uses graded density — coarser at the outside, finer toward the core — while spun cartridges are more typically uniform.
The gradient means more dirt is held before the cartridge blocks, so melt blown usually runs longer at the same rating on a loaded feed.
Usually less, on a high solids load. The cartridge price is higher but the run before change-out is longer, so cost per litre filtered generally falls.
On clean feed the advantage may never be realised, because neither cartridge blocks before other factors force a change.
No. Like other depth cartridges they trap particles through the thickness of the media, and backwashing or washing does not reliably remove them.
Where cleanability matters to the running cost, a pleated cartridge is the construction to look at instead.
Specified alongside melt blown cartridges, and the category this page sits in.
