A gauge reading near the bottom of its scale cannot resolve the small changes that matter. On a plant operating at 14 bar, a 0 to 100 bar gauge puts the needle at a seventh of full scale, where a 1 bar change is barely visible — and 1 bar is exactly the change that signals a cartridge filter needs replacing.
Select roughly 1.5 times the normal operating pressure so the needle sits mid-scale in normal duty. That preserves both the headroom for excursions and the resolution to see a trend.
